About Exeter Philharmonic Choir

Exeter Philharmonic Choir is a long-established choral society with a rich musical legacy. Renowned for its professional performances and contribution to Exeter’s cultural landscape, the choir continues to evolve while maintaining its deep connection to tradition.

Challenge

The existing logo and branding were considered outdated and no longer represented the choir’s ambition, energy, or diversity. The committee sought a refreshed identity to help engage larger, younger audiences and to reflect the dynamic spirit of the choir today.

Approach

Working collaboratively with a small working party of choir members and administrators, we began by exploring a range of visual concepts. Following feedback, it became clear that the choir wanted an abstract, contemporary approach rather than something overtly literal.

The final design centres on a stylised “EP” swoosh, inspired by a conductor’s flourish — a gesture symbolic of movement, direction, and creativity. This was paired with a modern sans-serif typeface and a rich colour palette, chosen to reflect both the variety of the choir’s repertoire and the changing seasons of performance.

Outcome

A cohesive and modern visual identity was delivered, accompanied by full brand guidelines and supporting graphic assets. Designs were also created for posters and a digital-first season brochure, ensuring the choir’s refreshed identity could be applied consistently across both print and online channels.
